Motion Picture from The Boogie Studios

The Boogie Garden - project description

Floral Infection, by Réka Simó, Emilia Makaruk, Chanon Aranyanak

The Yellow Columbine (Aquilegia Flavescens), according to Wikipedia, is a herbaceous Perennial plant with bell-shaped flowers. Its petals are modified into an elongated nectar spur and penetrate the layer formed by the sepals, which are similar in color. Having two layers interconnected, creates interesting spaces in-between. The components of the flower always follow certain rules, the most obvious is the repetition of the number five.

In the process of developing the project the geometrical regularity, the interconnection and the double layering set the trend to follow. The chosen keyword, inflorescence denotes a group or cluster of flowers arranged according to a certain rule. These basic rules were applied on the volume of the former Walter Gropius building, creating a double layered outer shell for the pavilion. One of the opportunities deriving from this special skin helped in creating the stairs: one of the "petals" with a nice curvature suddenly reaches inside and creates the connection between the ground floor and the bar in the upper corner.

22nd of June - hoping to win the 3d printer lottery

After a lot of struggle and many variations of the *stl model, finally one of them was accepted by mr. Fleischer. It seems that our double layered shell became a real challenge not only for us, but also for the 3d printer. So, unfortunately, we had to simplify it somehow, still keeping connections between the two sides. One of the opportunities deriving from this helped in creating the stairs: one of the "petals" with a nice curvature suddenly reaches inside and creates the connection between the ground floor and the bar in the upper corner.

...we still worry for what will come out from the machine on Tuesday.

Updates 3rd of June

Congratulations for winning the Brancusi Museum Competition!

We remade the model trying to make it similar to the one that we choose last time. Now it has no errors and it's even ready to go to the 3D printer! The next step will be adding more detail to the interior and modelling the site.

Updates 27th May

Following the ideas from the last workshop (the volume of the Gropius house as a starting point for the geometry, floral pattern, layered exterior skin, interconnection between layers) we developed new models and analysed them.

(+)
the atmosphere of the interior space coming from the light filtering and reflections
(-)
too regular pattern but very agitated in the same time

(+)
nice interior structure with colums that can be transformed easily into stairs
(-)
the outer skin has no clear purpose, it's more a design element than architecture

(+)
good architectural qualities, variety of forms and decorations, our favorite and we plan to work on this model in the future
(-)
the interior structure is not resolved and the 3d model has many mistakes
